About
Telling Our Stories, Finding Our Roots Project

What do you do?

As a community heritage and oral history project, we hope to find, share and celebrate the hidden histories of Honiton’s diverse and multicultural communities, past and present.

We are looking for people with stories to tell and an interest in volunteering to help us carry out research and interviews.

The project has been run in other towns across Devon over the last 10 years. You can see other stories and interviews collected on our website: www.tellingourstoriesdevon.org.uk

The project’s key aims are to unearth untold stories, collect and share pictures, memorabilia and audio recordings for sharing on our website, in an exhibition, events and an interactive printed town map.

Who would you like to collaborate with?

  • Organisations and individuals that are linked with or working with Honiton’s diverse communities.
  • Those living/working in Honiton who have a multicultural story or anyone interested in volunteering, to help us carry our research and interviews, particularly if you are from a diverse ethnic background.

Volunteering opportunity

We are looking for volunteers to help us carry out research, conduct interviews, collate memorabilia and materials, run events and workshops and a final exhibition. Volunteers will be offered training and support in archive research, interviewing and story telling.
